TOP OF THE WORLD OBSERVATION LEVEL: Painted Screens
Exhibition extended: Sunday, November 30

Everyone is invited to see Baltimore’s original folk art, painted screens.  Top of the World Observation Level and the Painted Screen Society presents Painted Screens–A New Take on an Old Tradition exhibition extended through Sunday, November 30.  During this show, artists present a new take on this 95 year-old tradition.  Top of the World’s operation hours are Wednesday through Sunday from 10am to 6pm.  Regular admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and military and $3 for children 3-12.  Group rates and advance ticket sales are also available.  Top of the World, a facility managed by Mayor Sheila Dixon and the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts is located at 401 E. Pratt Street on the 27th floor of Baltimore’s World Trade Center. 

“Painted Screens–A New Take on an Old Tradition” features contemporary screen painters as they showcase what has become Baltimore’s unique rowhouse art.  From its creation by William Oktavec in the 1900s, painted screens have become a Baltimore tradition.  Currently, a revitalization of this art form is taking place with the help of new exhibitions and artists bringing fresh interpretations to the century-old custom.  Throughout the month of November, visitors can enjoy the works of participating artists Dee Herget, Tom Lipka, John Oktavec, Jennifer Crouse, Anna Lipka, Monica Broere, Jenny Campbell, Catherine ‘Pat’ Michalski, John Iampieri and Anna Pasqualucci and more.
