A CELEBRATION OF THE DIVERSITY OF LATINO CULTURE
LATINOFEST ON JUNE 27 & 28, 2009
Celebrate the beautiful music, dance, art and language of Hispanic culture at the 29th annual LatinoFest. On Saturday, June 27 and Sunday, June 28 from 12-9pm, festival-goers can enjoy customary food, demonstrations, music including salsa, merengue, bachata and more, and family fun. The multigenerational band Manny Oquendo y Libre will perform traditional and modern inspired Latin music. Weekend festivities take place at Patterson Park, located at Linwood and Eastern avenues. Admission is $5 and free for children 12 years of age and under. The festival is a part of the 2009 Showcase of Nations Ethnic Festivals. LatinoFest is Baltimore’s premiere celebration of Hispanic culture, music and art. The event is presented by Mayor Sheila Dixon and the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts, and produced by the Education Based Latino Outreach, Inc.
Visitors can taste authentic and delectable foods such as enchiladas, pupusas, empanadas, roasted pork, mangu, ceviche, tacos and flautas. Exquisite pottery, jewelry, traditional clothing and other arts and craft items will be available for purchase. The festival offers family activities with rock climbing walls, clowns and face painting. During the celebration, dancers will perform in colorful costumes representing their various countries, and provide salsa dance demonstrations. Festival-goers can enjoy the sounds of cumbia, reggaeton, duranguense and mariachi music. Additionally, there will be live musical performances by Amarfis & La Banda Atakke, Conjunto Libre Salsa, Patrick Alban & Noche Latina, Soluction, Verny Varela & His Orchestra and many more.
