JUST ANNOUNCED: BALTIMORE FARMERS’ MARKET ADDS A BAZAAR

WITH ARTS, CRAFTS AND COLLECTIBLES

Not only can market-goers shop for the best deals on fresh produce but now they can shop for one-of-a-kind antiques and collectibles at the Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar. The Baltimore Bazaar, located at the market near Guilford Avenue and Pleasant Street, will operate in conjunction with the market. Dozens of talented craftspeople will call the outdoor lot home for the 2009 season. The 32nd annual Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar officially opens on Sunday, May 3 at 8am. On opening day, the Baltimore Islanders Steel Band performs original and classic reggae selections at 9am. Master gardeners will also be on hand to advise market-goers about starting and maintaining small and larger plants and gardens. Local farmers’ will provide an assortment of crisp produce, lean poultry, pork and beef, flavorful spices, freshly baked breads and pastries, and more. Maryland’s largest producers-only market, located on Saratoga Street between Holliday and Gay streets under the Jones Falls Expressway, remains open every Sunday through December 20 from 8am to sell out, approximately noon. The Baltimore Farmers’ Market & Bazaar is supported by media sponsor CITYPEEK, presented by Mayor Sheila Dixon and produced by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts.

The market has the best deals on ripe fruits, greens, herbs, preserves, dairy and nut products, pastries, plants, flowers and other seasonal items. Additionally, food vendors will serve multicultural foods including Asian, Cajun, Caribbean, Indian and Spanish cuisines. New vendors are Chesapeake Greenhouse that specializes in ‘hydroponic’ farming; Berliner Cold Cuts, which has organically raised meat that is processed naturally; Brooks Salsa, a local merchant making salsa products from locally raised produce; Firefly Farms offering nine varieties of goat cheese; Meat Crafters that has cold cuts from organically raised and processed meat; Rustic Gourmet of Roland Park that makes authentic Indian Food and Springfield Lamb which produces lamb products. The market will be at full capacity by the end of June.
