Baltimore 500 – A Race To Save Lives
BALTIMORE, MD – During the month of June the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) and the other member shelters of the Baltimore Animal Welfare Alliance (The Baltimore Humane Society and The Maryland Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animas) set an ambitious goal of getting 500 cats and kittens adopted during the month of June. This is the first alliance of its kind in Maryland.
In order to achieve this goal the three participating shelters waived their adoption fees for cats and kittens. The campaign was a resounding success resulting in 573 adoptions at the three shelters, a 62% increase from June 2008.
“The response from the community has been gratifying”, said Jennifer Mead-Brause, Executive Director at BARCS. “My heartfelt appreciation goes out to every one who responded to this campaign to save lives.”
BARCS is the largest shelter in Baltimore and surrounding areas taking in over 11,000 animals each year.
To adopt an animal from BARCS, stop by our facilities (behind M&T Bank Stadium), call us at 410-396-4695 or visit us online: www.baltimoreanimalshelter.org. We are open for adoptions Monday through Friday from 2 pm to 6 pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 am to 4 pm. The shelter will be closed on Independence Day. From our website, you can check out some of our adoptable animals. If you can’t adopt a pet, please consider donating or volunteering for BARCS.
The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, Inc. (BARCS) is a non-profit organization created in 2005. BARCS’ mission is to prevent cruelty to animals by: rescuing animals, finding homes for the neglected and abandoned animals, promoting the health and welfare of animals through education, advocacy and pet population control and working cooperatively with other animal advocacy groups, shelters, and community organizations to continually improve the lives of animals.
