ARTSCAPE TAKES PLACE JULY 17, 18 and 19, 2009
The 28th annual summer arts festival showcases the visual and performing arts
Artscape, America’s largest free celebration of the arts, returns in 2009 on Friday, July 17 and Saturday, July 18 from noon to 10pm and Sunday, July 19 from noon to 8pm centered on the 1200 block of Mount Royal Avenue and the 600 block of North Charles Street. Artscape is free and open to the public. The festival is presented by Mayor Sheila Dixon and produced by the Baltimore Office of Promotion & The Arts.
Artscape celebrates 28 years with some of the nation’s best arts and craftspeople; visual art exhibits both on and off-site; incredible live concerts on outdoor stages; a full schedule of performing arts including dance, opera, theater, fashion, film, music, interactive family fun projects, and children’s entertainers; and a delicious international menu of food and beverages available throughout the site.
Returning as part of Artscape is the 20th annual Billie Holiday Competition and third annual Cab Calloway Competition which takes place Sunday, July 19 at the Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, located at 1212 Cathedral Street. During the competitions, singers compete for top prizes and honor jazz legends Billie Holiday and Cab Calloway. In addition, the fourth annual Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize winner will be announced on Saturday, July 11, 7pm at The Baltimore Museum of Art, located at 10 Art Museum Drive. The Janet & Walter Sondheim Artscape Prize is a fellowship for artists working in the Baltimore region that helps to support the creation and development of new artwork by awarding the winner with $25,000 and exposure in the art community.
